Early-Mid Stage Dementia Training for Art Practitioners

This session provides an introduction to dementia, explores effective ways of reducing challenges faced by professionals and carers and how best to involve people in creative activities.
The day will include:
What is dementia?
The different types of dementia and how symptoms may affect individuals at different stages.
How does dementia affect communication?
Strategies for effective communication with people living with dementia and challenges around this.
The person with dementia and their surroundings:
Creating dementia-inclusive physical and sensory environments and understanding sensory impairments and dementia.
Involving people living with dementia in creative activities:
Encouraging participation through dementia-inclusive warm-ups, promoting choice, decision-making and a sense of agency.
Refreshments will be provided during breaks.
Please note lunch is not included but a cafÃ© is available
on-site where you can purchase drinks, snacks and a light lunch; or you are welcome to bring your own refreshments.
A pay and display car park is located nearby.
The venue can also be accessed by Park & Ride and local buses.
